May 5th - That WAS a Big Day!

When you have a heart for nonprofits, May 5, 2015 was practically a national holiday. This year's BIG Day of Giving, on May 5th, turned out to be another success, ensuring a top spot on the national leaderboard for the Sacramento region.

What is BIG Day? It's a coordinated regional effort to spotlight nonprofits in our area and encourage concentrated giving on a single day. Supporters were asked to pick their favorite(s) and make a donation on May 5.

Last year, the Sacramento region raised just under $3 million...in a single day! This year, that impressive total was blown away: The organizations that collaborated to bring BIG DoG to our area - Sacramento Region Community Foundation, Placer Community Foundation and Yolo Community Foundation - brought it over 36,000 gifts totaling over $5.6 million!are hoping to bring in $5 million. Just think of what will be possible with funding like that!

We were pleased to support Seniors First through their days leading up to BIG DoG. They had so much fun with their social media and fundraising campaigns, they were recognized by Give Local America, the national organization behind BIG DoG, for bringing serious attention to a fun event. As a result, they were able to bring in over $21,000.

Our friends at Zen Spa took part in the action by donating to Placer Food Bank and rewarding its clients who donated on the 5th with a discounted massage. That sounds like a win/win to us!

Mark you calendars for next year's event which has already been set for Tuesday, May 3rd.
